Bonn (August 23, 2010) Twenty years ago, the “Cairo Declaration of Human Rights in Islam” was signed by the forty-five foreign ministers of the “Organization of the Islamic Conference” (OIC). Therein, human rights are subjected to Sharia. The scholar of Islamic studies, Prof. Christine Schirrmacher, from the Institute of Islamic Studies, calls for a stronger commitment on the part of the liberal-democratic states in the rejection of Islamic-defined restrictions of human rights. Universal human rights, so Schirrmacher, may not be undermined through particularistic “human rights”.

Nach einer im Januar 2009 vorgestellten Studie des Islamwissenschaftlers Mouhanad Khorchide, in der er mehr als 200 der knapp 400 Islamlehrer Österreichs befragte, lehnen 21,9 Prozent der Lehrer die Demokratie ab. 27,1 Prozent halten die UN-Menschenrechtserklärung von 1948 für unvereinbar mit dem Islam und 18,2 Prozent äußerten Verständnis dafür, dass ein Muslim, der vom Islam abgefallen ist, mit dem Tod bestraft würde.

(Deutsch) B O N N (24. Juli 2008) – Eigentlich ist die Zwangsehe im Islam verboten. Die zukünftige Ehefrau soll nach verschiedenen Verlautbarungen einflussreicher islamischer Theologen in die Heirat einwilligen und mit dem Ehekandidaten einverstanden sein. Daher lehnen viele Muslime eine Zwangsheirat als unislamisch ab. Allerdings haben besonders junge Mädchen und Frauen in der Praxis dort, wo wirtschaftliche Not und Bildungsarmut herrschen sowie durch örtlich verfestigte Machtstrukturen verursachte Abhängigkeiten, oft wenig Mitspracherecht beim Zeitpunkt ihrer Eheschließung und der Wahl des Ehekandidaten.
